Clipboard and Pasting

On iPhone and iPad, Diktat puts your text in the clipboard once you stop recording. You paste it yourself with a tap in the target field. On the Mac, Diktat goes one step further. The text lands in the focused field and in the clipboard at the same time, always both, never a setting.

Some fields block automatic pasting, secure password fields for example. A missing Accessibility permission or a target app that will not activate can block it too. Either way, your text still ends up in the clipboard, and the recording pill names the reason. Press Cmd+V to paste it yourself.

Diktat does not back up whatever was in your clipboard before, and it does not restore it afterward. Anything that sat there gets overwritten by your dictation. If you still need it, save it somewhere else first.

Diktat puts your text straight into the clipboard, with no extra step in between. That keeps the flow simple, afterward there's exactly one single text there, yours. An automatic backup would mean an old item comes back again at some point, out of nowhere. And that, without you ever being asked about it at any point. That's exactly what Diktat consistently avoids, no surprise content swap hidden in the background. If you still need that older content, save it somewhere else first, before you dictate. That applies the same way on iPhone, iPad, and the Mac alike.

The simplest sign is the target field itself: no text there means the paste failed. On the Mac, the pill in the menu bar usually names the reason right away. Common reasons are a protected field, or an app that won't activate right now. Your dictation isn't lost in a case like that, though. It's still sitting in your clipboard, and it's in your history just the same. Just press Cmd+V in the field once it's active again. The text still shows up there after all, with no new recording needed.
